It was Sunday, two days early, but I suppose the organizers knew the turnout would be nothing if they proposed to lead a drunken crowd through West Hollywood on Tuesday. Don’t ask me how, but despite an E-Vite and my iPhone both listing the start time as 2:00pm, I was sure it started at 3:00. Being fashionably late turned into missing the group entirely at the start. We tried calling Kelly, long time friend of Morgan, and the only person we knew. Voice mail. I texted her, to no avail. We tried to figure out what route they would take, and where they could possibly stop. O-Bar was the nearest true bar, but they don’t open until 6:00. We decided to trek all the way down Santa Monica Boulevard, peeking hopefully in Hamburger Mary’s as we passed it, but despite their being packed out, there was no sign of our group. We walked all the way down to Robertson, checking every bar up to and including The Abbey, but came up empty. Although disappointed, we figured there was no reason to hang out (though we did see a couple of familiar faces that we chatted with, mutually catching up). I offered to go get the car myself, and lo and behold, there was a group of loud, friendly revelers in green walking in the opposite direction, carrying balloons and noisemakers.

Kelly gave me an enthusiastic hello and a hug, introduced me to a couple of the people next to her, and we continued down the street, collecting Morgan on the way. We had one drink at Trunks, then all headed over to The Motherlode (in all its sleazy glory) for the cash drawing they’d cooked up.

A few semi-celebs celebrated by the gay community were on hand including Chip Arndt, co-winner from The Amazing Race 4. I think he’s in the blue shirt in the middle of the group, below the green balloon with his back to the camera in this photo.

Yeah, you can’t see much. Still, dollar beers were fun, as was the blinking LED bow tie I was forced to wear. Drink up, boyos!
