Listening
I listened to two internet radio streams when I was working the day job in 2002:
Although power pop is my favorite genre these days (with indie pop right up there, too, though for me these labels are amorphous and inadequate), I immersed myself in electronica in 1998 and only slacked off in 2001. I listen to a lot of different styles, mind, everything from classical to country, occasionally. The above streams made my monotonous day bearable, until pressure from the music industry’s lawyers shut them down.
These days it’s mostly podcasts, but I’m going through another transition and am trying to pare down my list to what I can actually listen to and still spin new music that I buy. Computer music is perfect for keeping in the background while I work at the computer, particularly if I have to write or read. I tune out talking in that case, so Keith and the Girl, Le Show, and Dr. Karl are out unless I’m working on illustrations or design. Now that I’m doing more music and voice, I’ve discovered that the old streams have returned. It’s like getting a phone call from a buddy I haven’t heard from in years and we pick up right where we left off, emotionally and mentally, with no hard feelings for the intervening lack of contact.
Lots more music on the way, I swear. In the meantime, happy Halloween.
Where the bloody hell are you?
Oh, right, the weblog thing.
I haven’t been completely idle, it’s just that there isn’t much to post about that’s tangible. Here’s one, though, a promotional mailer that I did earlier in the year that the client rejected. Not one of my favorites, but that’s what you get with rush orders, sometimes.
